FSOA 2014

The University Museum on Saturday June 14, 2014 held it’s 3rd FSOA Wearable Art Gala. For the Sake of Art (FSOA) is a biannual competition and fundraiser that challenges clothing designers and visual artists, to create a garment inspired by selected artwork from the Museum’s permanent collection.

 

This year 14 designers were judged on the visual presentation, innovation, artistic inspiration and construction of their work. The judges for this year were noted designer Caesar Galindo of Lifestyle TV’s The Fashion Show, Houston Chronicle’s Best Dressed Hall of Famer, Lora Clemmons and textile designer Elizabeth Anyaa.

 

1st Place | People's Choice | Most Creative awards all went to designer Linda Morgan Soders. 2nd Place went to Krystle Holnes and 3rd Place went to John Sweeny.

 

In addition to the runway showcase, the event included a silent auction curated by Annette Bracey. Funds raised from the event will be matched by the University’s administration and will go to the newly established Endowment Trust for the Museum.

 

The competition coordinator this year was Andrea Bonner, owner of Style On Demand and the gala was chaired by Cheryl Elliott Thornton and Peter B. Thornton.
